SPS key experts conduct debriefing

Two of the key experts in sanitary and phytosanitary component of TRTA debrief the officials and staff of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). TRTA programme director Brenda Mendoza and technical assistance teamleader also attended the sessions.

The debriefing sessions were preceded by the experts’ mission on providing technical assistance to both government agencies.

Key expert on international SPS regulations, Len Woods was involved in the conduct of BFAR harmonization activity held in Cebu on January 2007. The harmonization seeks to adapt EU food and feed safety standards in the food safety regime of the Philippines. This activity will be replicated with PCA this April 2007.

On the other hand, key expert on international laboratory assurance, Carl Bertram Nagel reviewed the progress on the preparation for accreditation of the agencies’ laboratories with ISO 17025. He also conducted a joint seminar-workshop validation of analytical methods using statistical methods. EML
